The Greenway swimmers and divers competed against Willow Canyon yesterday. The boys came away with a resounding victory, 132 to 40. The boys had a number of events that the Demons swept the top 3 places. The 200 Freestyle 1st Michael Dimodugno 2nd Evan Lindvall   3rd Ethan Candelaria.

The Boys also took first in 11 of the 12 events. Daniel Hernandez 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke, Corbin Lizarraga 50 Freestyle, Asher Stemmons 100 butterfly 100 backstroke and Collin Ferguson 1 meter diving

The girls came up 6 points short against Willow Canyon 90  to 84. The girls we led by 1st place finishes by Tavia Stemmons in the 200 IM and 100 Butter Fly, Sidney Wolf in the 50 Fre, estyle. And a 123 sweep in the 400 Freestyle 1st Heather Johnson, 2nd  Torin Laytart 3rd Emily Formanek. Great Job good luck next week against Ironwood. Let’s hear it for swim and dive.

The Demon Swimmers and Divers competed in the District meet this past weekend. This was the final competition before the state meet. The boys finished second in the meet. It was a total team effort. The divers played an important role in securing second place. Alex Rouse took home the second place medal while Michael Gallagher and Sam Watson took 5th and 6th. The swimmers had a great meet with multiple swimmers finishing in the top 8. Gideon Stemmons took 4th in the 200 free and 2nd in the 500 free. Evan Lindvall finished 6th in the 200 free and 4th in the 500 free. Daniel Hernandez finished 5th in both the 50 free and 100 breaststroke. Corbin Lizarraga finished 6th in the 50 free and 7th in the 100 free while Michael Dimodugno finished 6th in the 100 free. Ethan Candelaria had a great swim to capture 6th in the 100 back. The boys 200 free relay of Daniel Hernandez, Michael Dimodugno, Corbin Lizarrraga and Gideon Stemmons took second.

The Girls Swim Team took 3rd place over behind Sunnyslope and Thunderbird. The girls were led by the foursome of Tavia Stemmons, Sidney Wolf, Heather Johnson and Emilia Winans. Tavia won the 50 free and placed second in the 100 butterfly, she was able to break the minute barrier in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.97 seconds lowering her school record. Sidney Wolf placed second in the 50 free and 3rd in the 100 free. Heather Johnson took home the 4th place medal in the 200 free and the second place medal in the 100 free. Emily Winans had a 7th place finish in the 50 free and 8th in the 100 breast stroke. These for girls also made of the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay teams. The girls lowered their own school records in both of these events. Other swimmers having a great meet and finishing in the top 8 include Annika Olsen 8th in the 200 freestyle.  Grace Madril 6th in both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. .Almost every swimmer set a personal record this past weekend. Great way to end the season! If Greenway were a ship at sea then I would feel safe knowing we have so many great swimmers on board.

Speaking of great swimmers, the following girls are representing Greenway at the state swim meet. Tavia Stemmons in the 50 Freestyle, 100 butterfly and the 200 and 400 free relays. Heather Johnson in the 100 Freestyle and the 200 and 400 free relays. Sidney Wolf in the 100 Freestyle and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays and Emilia Winans the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays. Do GREAT at STATE!
