Tyler Tenold scored the winning touchdown to bring home the victory for men dressed in green and gold.  Other key players in the game were Jacob Burden, Mohammad Ibrahim, James Lowrey, Leo Rios and Luke Purr.  The game was moved from Thunderbird to Greenway because Thunderbird’s stands had a mysterious electrical charge; however, the Thunderbird found out the hard way that there is a much bigger electrical charge in our football stadium.  You don’t come to our turf with feeling the shock!!!

(COACH: JEFF COX)

8/30 – COCONINO – HOME – LOSS – 20-8

The Freshmen football team lost a tough battle against Coconino 20 to 8. The crowd was great, the cheerleaders were awesome and the football was fun to watch. After falling behind early, the Demons made a charge late but fell short. Christian Johnson had the big play of the night running around the right side for a 60-yard touchdown. Other outstanding performances were made by Brody Bobzian and Caleb Wahner on the offensive side. On the defensive side, Kenyon Bowles and Daymond Neal made some great plays. While the outcome was not what they had hoped for, the future of Greenway football looks bright with this Freshmen group. Thank you to all who came out and supported last night.

GREENWAY’S FRESHMEN FOOTBALL TEAM BATTLED THUNDERBIRD ON WEDNESDAY IN A CLOSE HARD FOUGHT GAME.  DESPITE BEING DOWN BY A FEW TOUCHDOWNS EARLY ON GREENWAY CAME BACK TO MAKE THE GAME CLOSE. CALEB WARNER #7 RECOVERED FUMBLE AND SCORED WHILE ETHAN SLICK RETURNED A KICKOFF AND TOOK IT TO THE HOUSE. SLICK ALSO CAUGHT A 60 YARD TOUCHDOWN PASS THROWN BY QUATERBACK BRODY BOBZEEN.  CHRISTIAN JOHNSON MUSCLED HIS WAY INTO THE ENDZONE FOR A TWO POINT CONVERSION.  ON THE DEFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL DAMON NEAL WAS A MADMAN TACKLING EVERY CHIEF IN SIGHT. 9/13 – WASHINGTON – AWAY – WIN – 42-20

9/20 – SHADOW MOUNTAIN – HOME WIN -23-22

The Freshman football team won a close game last night with a 33 yard field goal kicked by Brandon Woodland! The final score was 23-22 and the Demon defense held the Shadow Mountain Matadors scoreless in the second half! Outstanding performances were played by Brody Bobzien, Christian Johnson, Caleb Wahner and our entire defensive and offensive line! Special teams made a huge difference in this game as our punter, Matthew Koistinen pinned the ball inside the ten yard line and we recovered an onside kick to go set up the score that put us ahead in the first half. Turn overs were a big problem for both teams as our secondary picked off 5 passes on the night but we also fumbled several times. This brings our record to 2-2 now as we look forward to hosting Casa Grande next week!
