Greenway’s baseball team opened the season in style last night by runs ruling Estrella Foothills by a score of 11 to 1 in front of a packed ballpark.  Jesus Macias pitched five strong innings allowing only one run as the Demon defense was stellar not allowing a single error. Kaden Dornhecker hit two rbi singles and Christian Platero got on base three times by getting beaned three times.  Greenway is back in action again this afternoon at the old ballpark taking on highly ranked Mingus Mountain.  First pitch is set for 4pm.  Be there to cheer on our guys.

4/6 – CACTUS – AWAY – WIN

JV baseball is rolling once again after 2 huge victory’s over the Peoria Panthers on Tuesday and the Cactus Cobra last night.

Tuesday saw the Demons avenge an early season loss to the Panthers, But that would certainly not be the cast that day. As the Demons would put in a huge day at the plate and score 11 runs in 5 innings. Offensively the Demons were led by Wyatt Dessenburger who had a huge game going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 1 triple. On the mound, Jake Wilson was locked in throwing a complete game allowing only 1 run and striking out 9 Panthers.

Last night was much of the same for the Demons as once again they put up a huge number at the dish scoring 12 runs. Lead by  Josh Formicola who had 2 triples and 5 Runs Batted in. Oman Sotelo led the Demons on the mound giving up 3 runs on only 4 hits through 6 in three innings of work. Holden Soto was called on to finish the game on the mound and he did just that! Allowing only 1 hit and 0 runs in 1 and 2/3rd innings.

The Demons look to sweep the week as they travel to Scottsdale Saguaro today to face the Sabercats.

4/7 – SAGUARO – AWAY – LOSS – 0-1

JV Baseball fell short in a very well fought battle on Friday afternoon to the Sabercats of Scottsdale Saguaro. In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Sabercats finally found a way to score a run when they hit a double to left field to score their runner from 2nd base. Josh Formicola was the man of the day for the Demons who up until that point had thrown 6 and 1/3 scoreless innings and keep the game in reach all afternoon. Even with the loss, the JV baseball team had a huge week going 2-1 scoring 23 runs and only allowing 5.

The JV Baseball team is back in at it on Tuesday afternoon as they welcome the Cactus Cobras to Greenway. Game time is 3:45 pm.

UNOFFICIAL FRESHMEN BASEBALL SEASON RECORD (4-3)

(GAME TIME: 3:45 PM, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED)

(COACH: JEFF COX)

2/22 – MOUNTAIN POINTE – AWAY – LOSS – 0-12

2/27 -PEORIA – AWAY – WIN – 9-3

The freshman baseball team pulverized the Peoria Panthers for their first win of the season by a score of 9-3 in the rain! Tanner Van Horn pitched a great game and went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Ethan Archuleta stole 3 bases including home. Cameron March had 2 RBI’s and a double as well as pitching the save in the last inning. Sean Hekel had 2 RBI’s and a base hit and Caleb Ashenbrener had one base hit and an awesome sacrifice bunt.  The Demons head to St. Mary’s today to hopefully improve their record to 2-1 on the season.

3/7 – CACTUS SHADOWS – HOME – LOSS – 1-6

The freshman baseball team lost a disappointing battle with Cactus Shadows yesterday by a score of 1-6 in 7 innings. With only 3 base hits and 3 errors the team had a difficult time but are steadily improving, day by day overall. Arthur Decker pitched 4 really good innings to hold the falcons to only one run and then had a rough 5th inning when he was eventually replaced by Tanner Van Horn as a relief pitcher. Tanner got us out of the inning but it was too little, too late as the Demons struggled at the plate.

3/9 – THUNDERBIRD – AWAY – LOSS – 3-7

The freshman baseball team lost another hard-fought battle yesterday to the Thunderbird Chiefs by a score of 2-7 in 6 innings. Tanner Van Horn and Ethan Archuleta pitched a great game and Cameron March came in to close but it just wasn’t enough to make up for the lack of base hits and several costly errors! This brings the frosh record to 1 win and 3 losses on the season so far! We will keep working hard in practice to improve so we can bring home more wins in the coming weeks!

3/22 – ST. MARY’S – AWAY @ 3:45PM – WIN – 12-3

3/24 – SUNRISE MOUNTAIN – HOME

4/4 – PEORIA – HOMEWIN – 12-2

The Demon Frosh Baseball Team added another win yesterday against the Peoria Panthers by a score of 12-2 in 4 and a half innings. This brings our season record to 3-3. Jesus Estrella led the team by pitching 8 strikeouts and no earned runs. Tanner Van Horn has the highest batting average at .529 and Cameron March leads the team with 8 runs batted in and a 0.0 earned run average. Our next game is at Scottsdale Saguaro which should prove to be a great test for the team.

 4/7 – SAGUARO – AWAY – WIN – 5-2

4/13 – METRO TECH – AWAY

4/18 – METRO TECH – HOME
